3 Sivaswami schools in Mylapore leap forward, go solar

The three schools run by National Boys and Girls Education
Society – Lady Sivaswami Ayyar Girls’ Higher Secondary School,
Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya Senior Secondary School and Sivaswami
Kalalaya Higher Secondary School – have now gone solar with
the installation of 130 KV solar projects to produce solar power
to meet the needs of the three schools.
At a function held at RK Swami Auditorium, Srinivasan K
Swamy, president of the Society, said the solar initiative will
usher in a green future and instill the idea of renewable energy
in the minds of children.
The three schools and the auditorium will have separate solar
panels made in India and the surplus energy generated will be
sold to the Tamil Nadu Government also. The school will get
free electricity for at least the next 25 years resulting in
substantial cost reduction, Swamy said.
The total cost of the project is Rs 75 lakhs donated by a well
wisher. The project not only helps save money but promotes
sustainability in the minds of youngsters.

representative of the family and addressed the gathering
Five generations of my family are associated with the school
and hence he had an emotional attachment to the institution,
he said.
S Sridharan, honorary Joint Secretary and treasurer and
correspondent of Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya Senior Secondary
School spoke on the developments happening at the three
schools such as installation of latest smart boards.
The project was undertaken by Virupaksha Energy.
Namachivayam M, director of the company highlighted the
advantage of solar energy and the technological advancements
happening in the sector. Vijin T, Senior Engineer Virupaksha
spoke.
