DR TAMILISAI SOUNDARAJAN


(BHARATIYA JANATA PARTY)

A senior leader of the party she was until recently the Governor

of Telangana and Lt Governor of Puducherry. She served as

State President of the BJP and National Secretary of the BJP

during her political career spanning three decades.

Born in 1961, Tamilisai Soundararajan resigned from the posts

as Governor and rejoined the party in the presence of Tamil

Nadu BJP President K Annamalai

She is the daughter of prominent freedom fighter and veteran

Congressman Kumari Anandan 93, who served as State

Congress President and MP. Her husband Dr Soundararajan is

one of the eminent nephrologists of India.

She graduated from Ethiraj College and did her MBBS from

Madras Medical College and her post graduate degree in

OBGYN from Dr MGR Medical University. She was trained

in Sonology and FET therapy in Canada.

Prior to entering politics, she worked as an assistant professor

at Sri Ramachandra Medical College. She has two children, a

boy and a girl, both are doctors.

As recognition of her dedicated service to the society and

general public and promoting gender equality women

empowerment, she was awarded International Rising Star of

the Year – 2018 by multi ethnic advisory task force, US

operating under US Congressman Danny K Davis.

She became interested in politics from childhood days having

been brought up in a political family. She was elected as a

student leader during her studies at MMC

She had served the Tamil Nadu state BJP unit in various

capacities starting from South Chennai District Medical Wing

Secretary, State General Secretary Medical Wing, All India Co-

Convener (Medical Wing for Southern States), State General

Secretary, State Vice-President and elevated as National

Secretary

She was appointed the Governor of Telangana in 2019 by the

President of India. She was given additional charge

of Puducherry. During the pandemic, she visited healthcare

workers in hospitals and encouraged vaccination.
