PS Educational Society celebrates golden jubilee
PS. Educational Society in Mylapore, a not-for-profit society registered under the Societies Act is celebrating its golden jubilee from Aug 31 to Sept 7.
The Society manages five schools – PS Higher Secondary School,
PS Senior Secondary School, PS Matriculation Higher Secondary
School, SRKM PS Matric School (PS High School-North) all in Mylapore and PS Temple Green Vidyashram in Oragadam on OMR
The Society’s golden jubilee will commence with an Inaugural function with Padma Vibhushan Dr R. Chidambaram, former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission as the Chief Guest.
Dr V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras will be the guest of honour on Aug 31. Both are alumni of PS Schools.
There will be a meeting of alumni of all the schools at PS Higher Secondary School on Sept 1, inter-school tournaments on Sept 2 and 3; a development workshop for the teachers of all the five schools on the Teachers Day Sept 5
The students will do a rally around the Mada streets to exhibit their public service- NCC. Scouts, Junior Red Cross, Road Patrol
Safety etc. and spread awareness among the public about environment protection and social causes.
The celebrations will conclude with a valedictory function in which Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi will be the chief guest on Sept 7.
Brahmasri Pennathur Subramaniam Iyer born in March, 1860 in a middle class family at Chittoor in the then erstwhile Madras Presidency thought that the best use he could make of his wealth was to utilize it for the spread of knowledge and education of the upcoming generations
This led to the formation of the PS Charities which has expanded its service in the cause of education and stands glorious after 100+ years
He bequeathed all his property towards PS Charities set up in 1904 and PS High School was started in 1905. Over the past century, P.S. Schools has produced outstanding leaders across all fields.
PS Educational Society was formed in 1974 by PS Charities in order to focus exclusively on educational service. Since then, PS has grown like a banyan tree with many strong roots and benefiting many generations of students, says Dr KVS Gopalakrishnan, president of the Society
The total student strength in all the PS Schools together is over 5600 with 270 teachers, says C V Krishnan, secretary of the Society. The Society offers scholarships for PS School students to pursue college education
PS Educational Society commenced in April 2024 Sri Kanchi Mahaswamy Academy for Civil Services , a not for profit initiative to utilize the services of experienced faculty including retired government servants. It will impart training to young aspirants to prepare for writing all India competitive examinations.
PS Schools cater to every sector of the Society. Be it the free education in State Board for the socioeconomically disadvantaged or the fair bearable cost Matriculation Schools or the CBSE schools right from KG all the way to 12th says Pennathur Prabhakar, a Chartered Accountant and treasurer of the Society
