A large number of devotees had gathered in Mylapore last week to
witness the theppam (float) annual festival of Sri Kapaleeswarar temple
which commenced on Thai Poosam day.
On the first day, the deities of Sri Kapaleeswarar and Sri Karpagambal
were tastefully decorated and taken out in a procession to the western
side of the tank and placed on the theppam.
Devotees either stood or sat on the steps of the tank and had a darshan
of the deities when the theppam came near them. Many sat through
the whole schedule and basked in the divine glory. The next day the
deities of Sri Singaravelar and his consorts were taken out in a
procession and placed on the theppam that made five rounds.
Mylapore MLA Dha Velu with his family participated in the celebrations
and provided annadhanam to hundreds of people at his own expense.
Anitha Kumaran, trustee of Murugan temple at Tiruchendur and
daughter of the late Dina Thanthi Chairman Dr Sivanthi Adityan also
attended the festival. P K Kevinitha, Joint Commissioner and Executive
Officer had made all the arrangements for the festival.
