Thiru Mylais Star award gala honors winners

The prize distribution event to honour the winners of Navaratri

Golu competition and children’s painting competition

conducted by Thiru Mylais Star, Mylapore’s favourite

neighbourhood English weekly, was held at Centenary

Auditorium at PS Higher Secondary School in Mylapore last

week

The event scheduled to be held at the PS Higher Secondary

School auditorium two weeks ago was postponed due to

cyclone.

The function was graced by A Revathi, Councilor of Greater

Chennai Corporation Council, philanthropist Kalaimamani

Auditor J Balasubramanian (JB), K Mohammed Ibrahim Khaleel,

former regional director of ICCR – Chennai and R Vijayalakshmi,

founder and director of Glowing Minds, Mylapore as guests of

honours.

Revathi who was the chief guest and distributed prizes to

winners reaffirmed her commitment to make Mylapore clean

and safe and sought the cooperation of Mylaporeans in the

task.


Auditor J Balasubramanian founder of Savithri Foundation

praised the public service of the weekly by involving the

readers and engaging them through various competitions.

K Mohammed Ibrahim Khaleel, former regional director of ICCR

said Mylapore is the cultural capital with festivals happening all

through the year. He praised the weekly for conducting various

competitions for the public and encouraging the promotion of

arts and culture.

R Vijayalakshmi, founder and director of Glowing Minds

Montessori Resource Center in Mylapore said the weekly has

been doing a commendable service to Mylapore not only

providing quality news but also conducting competitions

especially to women and children.

All the winners of the Navaratri Golu contest and children’s

painting competition were given the prizes at the event.

Vijay Rajan N received the first prize of gold coin in the

Navaratri Golu competition while Sangeetha Shankaran Sumesh

got a silver coin as second prize. The third prize winner S Subha

also received a silver coin. The certificate of merit winners were

given gift coupons of Srirangam P Nachimuthu Textiles of

Mylapore.

An independent panel of jury led by Bharatanatyam Guru Dr

Raghi Janarthanan and Dr VRG Raji, advisor of Tamizhnadu

Brahmin Association’s Mylapore unit had evaluated all the

entries and chose the winners.


The sponsors of the event - Ramco Cements, Glowing Minds,

City Union Bank, Decathlon, Srirangam P Nachimuthu Textiles-

were honored on the occasion. Raj Thaneeghaivel, publisher

and editor of the weekly presided over the event.

Prakash M Swamy, editor-in-chief of the weekly welcomed the

gathering. Mythreyi Rajagopalan, Bharatanatyam guru was the

emcee of the event. AV Ganapathy, chief marketing manager

proposed a vote of thanks.
