Thiru Mylais Star prize award event Dec 7

BY OUR CORRESOPONDENT

The prize distribution event for the winners of Navaratri Golu

competition and children’s painting competition conducted by

Thiru Mylais Star, favourite neighbourhood English weekly of

Mylapore, scheduled to be held at the PS Higher Secondary

School auditorium last week and postponed due to cyclone will

be held at the same venue on Dec 7 at 6 PM.

The newspaper management took the call on the previous day

to postpone the event when the Met Department issued a Red

Alert. “We did not want to expose the children to the cyclone

and rain as it may affect their health,” says Raj Thaneeghaivel,

publisher of the weekly.

The function will be graced by A Revathi, Councilor of Greater

Chennai Corporation Council, philanthropist Kalaimamani

Auditor J Balasubramanian (JB), K Mohammed Ibrahim Khaleel,

former regional director of ICCR – Chennai and R Vijayalakshmi,

founder and director of Glowing Minds, Mylapore.

All the winners of the Navaratri Golu contest and children’s

painting competition will be given the prizes at the event.

Vijay Rajan N gets the first prize of gold coin in the Navaratri

Golu competition while Sangeetha Shankaran Sumesh gets a

silver coin as second prize and Dr E Karthikeyan again a silver

coin as third prize.

Uma Maheshwari Natesan and Ranjitha the certificate of merit

winners will be given gift coupons of Srirangam P Nachimuthu

Textiles of Mylapore.

An independent panel of three jury members led by

Bharatanatyam Guru Dr Raghi Janarthanan with Dr VRG Raji,

advisor of Tamizhnadu Brahmin Association’s Mylapore unit

and Shreenithie Renuka, social activist and a celebrity makeup

artist evaluated all the entries and chose the winners.

Over 300 entries had poured in some after the cut off dates and

the response was overwhelming, said Raj Thaneeghaivel, editor

and publisher of the weekly. “All the entries were forwarded to

the members of the jury after masking the names and

addresses of the participants with only numerals for

identification,” he said.

Raghi Janarthanan head of the jury said the panel had tough

time in selecting the winners. “All the entries were unique in

their own way and stood out in some aspects and we had to

choose very carefully taking into account various aspects such

as creativity, age of dolls, arrangements and theme of the

golu.”
